    Drive belt of a 1,500 kW wood processing machine which chops 180 tons of timber per hour
     
  • Challenge
    Rotating mass of about 15 tons and a belt speed of 31 m/s.Due to the low temperatures of the region, which can go down to -40 °C (-40 °F), the already stiff polyamide belt type initially used was becoming even harder. This caused joint breaks after a certain period of time.

Measures
Due to the extremely low temperatures, Habasit looked for a solution with a more flexible belt with textile tensile member and an adhesive-free joint. Calculations using the POWER-SeleCalc program showed that to cope with the application's high capacity needs would take the strongest flat belt available, i.e. the TF-75TE with aramid tensile fabric.

Benefits
With the installed 850 mm wide TF-75TE the machine runs 23 hours a day without problems 7 days a week.The one hour left is required for the regular system maintenance.
