What are possible reasons for joint failure?

A general answer cannot be given, as joint failure depends largely on the application circumstances. The joint is in general the weakest part of the belt so any overload is likely to show up there first. Among the factors that can cause joint failure are:

  • Application of insufficient or excessive initial tension
  • Higher application temperature than recommended
  • Mechanical problems (e.g. belt edges touching installation parts)
  • Smaller pulley diameter than recommended
